An opportunity to hear close up and intimate Sicily’s finest alto-sax player who emerged early on the world stage with a free and fruitful talent in a small room packed wall to wall with a standing room only audience some of whom sat on the floor being young and female and late and all pronounced themselves delighted with a “very good” and even “brilliant” display of Francesco Cafiso’s free ranging explorations framed by masterful bass and spitfire drumming by Marco Panascia and McClenty Hunter.

FRANCESCO CAFISO
QUARTET

One of the most precocious talents in the history of jazz. When he was barely nine years old Francesco took his first steps working with musicians of international caliber. Marsalis took him along with his septet on his European tour 2003, where Francesco performed in prestigious European theaters. From that moment on his career has been a crescendo, receiving several important awards, and culminating in the 2015 release of three CDs, profoundly different from each other: La Banda, Contemplation and 20 Cents per Notes, with Cafiso in the role of composer, arranger and performer.

The playing of Sicilian altoist Francesco Cafiso was a revelation. His sextet gave a thrilling performance of his project La Banda, part of a new triple album.
